Best Detox Tea Reviews

Detox Tea is another trend that people have been gravitating towards in recent times. It’s very easy to shy away from anything that entails solely detoxing with liquids as these diets they cannot sustain the human body for too long.

A tea detox, or a teatox on the other hand, offers a different approach. This is because it supplements some herbal cups to a healthy diet, rather than entirely replacing meals.

Giuliana Rancic used the Ultimate Tea Diet shed seven pounds before her wedding in 2007. Kendall Jenner also credited her figure to her love of tea, as she apparently has close to a dozen cups of detox lemongrass-and-green tea each day.

Tea’s Potent Powers

A 2013 study from American, Dutch and Italian researchers showed that tea could help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, lower blood pressure, increase one’s mood and mental performance, and help keep weight down and energy up.

As many of you out there know, however, tea cannot do the job on its own.

Black tea and green teas are loaded with antioxidants, which is the key to boosting the cleansing process in our bodies.

It can be helpful to your body to drink some tea right after you get up from bed and just before you go to sleep. This all depends on the kind of tea you choose of course.

Unless you have an issue with caffeine, you can more than likely handle between 5-7 cups each day.

The important thing to remember is tea itself does not detoxify. It’s important to maintain a good diet and exercise too.

Here’s what you can do to maintain a good diet:

  • Stop or cut back on fried and processed foods
  • Eat more:
    • Fruits and vegetables
    • Whole grains
    • Lean proteins
    • Anti-inflammatory fats including almonds and avocados

Here are some things to know about detox tea…

You still have to diet and exercise for them to work

One detox tea brand that has been shared on social media by several celebrities including Hilary Duff, Kourtney Kardashian and Christina Milian states that the tea should be consumed while having an energy-controlled diet and regular exercise. This company also sells a corresponding meal plan.

You might lose water weight, not actual fat

There are detox teas that combine diuretics with caffeine. When they do, they can help one lose water weight. Two cups of water equal one pound. This can make one feel lighter despite not losing any body fat.

Detox teas also have laxative properties, causing the body to shed waste from the GI tract. This can make for a flatter stomach and allow one to feel lighter.

This could lead to a boost helping anyone to start working out and eating right, which is great, but you can gain the weight back if you eat terribly once again.

Some detox tea ingredients can have unwanted side effects

Detox Tea concoctions also have herbs that have the following goals:

  • Reduce appetite
  • Increase metabolism
  • Help with weight loss in other ways.

Senna is one particular example. It has the following side effects, according to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Discomfort
  • Gas
  • Nausea

Overuse of senna can end up with a depletion of potassium and other electrolyte issues. This can cause one to have an abnormal heart rhythm and/or trigger muscle spasms.

Additionally, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) warns against using senna for long periods of time. WebMd notes that senna has several chemicals known as sennosides, which can irritate your bowel lining, causing a laxative effect.

Guarana, often found in energy drinks, is also found in detox teas. Here are its side effects, which have a great deal to do with its caffeine content:

  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Nervousness
  • Rapid Heart and Breathing Rates
  • Restlessness
  • Ringing in the Ears
  • Stomach Irritation
  • Vomiting

They may interfere with sleep

Many detox teas have caffeine in them as it can help with getting rid of water weight, curbing appetite and working with the digestive system. A little caffeine can help give a boost to a workout.

But too much can also cause a lot of problems include sleep deprivation. Too little sleep can negate any weight loss effects of tea.

Too little sleep can lead to a slower metabolism cause one to eat more, causing weight gain even if extra calories are not consumed.

It is practical to not have caffeine about six hours before bedtime.

The research on detox teas is scant

There is little to evidence to show that detox teas work, who shouldn’t use them, how the teas should be consumed and what is too much.

If you don’t know what to do, reach out to a physician or health care provider.
