What You Should Know About Shakeology

0

Shakeology is one of the latest meal replacement shakes on the market to date. The brand boasts several claims which according to reviews have elicited mixed reactions. Shakeology is designed to reduce cravings for food, reduce appetite, support a healthy immune system, and provide a balanced blend of nutrients. The product’s core selling point is perhaps the claim that Shakeology is made entirely from globally sourced superfood’ ingredients and contains no artificial flavors or colors. However, Shakeology is only one in a sea of meal replacement brands out there, and it is worth investigating the reason for its fast-growing popularity among consumers.

Value for money

The first thing you notice about Shakeology is the high price tag attached to the product. A 30-day meal pack costs roughly $130.00. This averages out to just over $4.00 per day if you drink one shake per day. This makes it one of the highest priced meal replacement shakes on the market. The product has over 70 different ingredients,  which contributes to the high price tag. Shakeology also possesses one of the most diverse ingredient mixes out there, with quite a few ingredients that the average consumer hasn’t even heard of. Despite this long ingredients list, many dieticians suggest that there are a large number of unnecessary and redundant ingredients in the shakes. For example, Shakeology contains 16 grams of protein (which is considered very high), derived from  two separate sources:

· Whey protein isolate

Whey protein isolate is a by-product of cheese-making and is 90% percent protein. It is a healthy source of protein and a good inclusion in Shakeology products.

· Pea protein:

Pea protein is obtained from yellow split peas and poses a variety of health risks. The protein contains purines, which promote gout. It also increases the production of uric acid which can cause kidney stones. Dietitians believe this is an unnecessary ingredient in Shakeology that could easily be replaced with a source of protein that’s much better for you.

Performance when compared to competitors

In general, Shakeology compares reasonably with most meal replacement products. However, it doesn’t hold a candle to some other brands. Beyond the pricey retail cost, some people have reported that they don’t enjoy the taste of the shakes. Long-time customers noticed a big change in the flavor once Shakeology started to expand and make changes to the product. Some reported that they disliked it so much they won’t be continuing using the product. Several of Shakeology’s competitors like 310 Shake, 18Shake, Isagenix and Herbalife have a much higher quality in taste and receive better reviews from customers.

If you’re looking to use a product that claims to be a meal replacement, you expect it to dramatically reduce or eliminate hunger for that meal period, right? Shakeology does not effectively achieve this. I found it less adequate than a milkshake of the same volume! Making a meal replacement product a true meal replacement is a bit of a challenge. Many other similar products struggle to truly achieve the same thing, so this isn’t a problem exclusive to Shakeology.

From a nutrition perspective, Shakeology is sufficient to replace two meals per day. When you combine the shakes with certain liquids, healthy ingredients and fruit, the meal will contain enough calories to replace a meal. Many people make smoothies, shakes, etc. with the product to round it out. However, the marketing can be a bit misleading since it’s advertised as a meal replacement. In reality, Shakeology is more accurately described as a dietary supplement.

Sweeteners

Each serving of Shakeology contains a minimum of 7 grams of sugar depending on the flavor you’ve chosen. The taste is enhanced using a combination of non-GMO fructose and stevia which add to the calorie content thereby providing you with more energy. As sweeteners go, Shakeology does a good job of choosing something that will be better for you than the standard processed sugars.

Effectiveness

Weight loss

This is one area where Shakeology is very effective. As a dietary supplement designed to provide a well-rounded balance of nutrients, these shakes help to curb junk food cravings. If you watch your calorie intake and consume Shakeology on a regular basis, you will see results after a few weeks or months. High-fat junk foods add and keep weight onto our bodies. Cutting those out and replacing them with lower fat foods that feed your body the proper nutrients makes a huge difference.

Weight gain

Shakeology can also help you gain some weight if that’s what you’re after. Fitness fans realize that taken alongside regular meals, the shakes help to increase muscle mass if accompanied by regular workouts. The nutrients in the meal supplement help fuel your body and give it what it needs in order to gain strength and weight.

Energy

If you’re drinking Shakeology on a daily basis, you’ll notice a difference in your energy levels. Many customers find that their mood remains more positive throughout the day and that they experience a clearer mind at work. That’s definitely a positive thing!

Digestion and metabolism

Shakeology has been proven to help consumers with digestive issues. Often we are not feeding our bodies the proper nutrients to stabilize gut health. This causes digestive discomfort and problems. After using the shakes on a regular basis, many report that they can now eat the same foods that used to give them issues, with no problem at all. This is because of the large number of high quality nutrients that it provides your body.
